For two years, the Police Unity Tour has been traveling through
Warrenton, Virginia and staying at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites during
its 220 mile journey to Washington D.C. The Police Unity Tour was first created
in May 1997 by Officer Patrick Montour of the New Jersey Police Department. The
entire purpose of the tour is to remember all the fallen officers who have died
in the line of duty. It is a four day fund-raising bicycle ride that ends at
the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C.
In May 2011 there were approximately 1,300 members nationwide who
made the trip. There has been approximately $10 million dollars worth of
donations made to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund over the
past 14 years. Most of the donations received for this organization are for the
re-engraving, coating and sealing of all the names located on the memorial. The
money also goes towards cleaning the walls of the memorial and other general
improvements. This year the Police Unity Tour is taking place today, May 11,
2012. If you would like to make a donation to this fundraiser please visit www.policeunitytourchapter4.com
