Spring time in Warrenton, Virginia means there are many outdoor activities that are going to start taking place throughout the area over the next 6 months. To be more specific, there are many events that take place at the Great Meadows field events center located out in The Plains, Virginia. Great Meadows is a 250-acre location with a steeplechase course. The location is run by the Great Meadow Foundation, which is a non-profit organization that dedicates itself to the preservation of the open land for community related activities.
Beginning in May there are many big events that take place at Great Meadows. The first event is the Annual Gold Cup Races which are on May 5, 2012. This particular event has taken place for several years and people from all over Virginia come to watch the races, dress up in fancy outfits, and eat and drink as much as they please. Another major event is the Virginia Scottish Games which takes place on September 1, 2012 this year. There are also weekly Twilight Polo Matches that occur every Saturday night at Great Meadows beginning on May 19, 2012.
Great Meadows is located only 10 short minutes outside of the town of Warrenton. It is a location that draws much attention throughout the warmer months of the year, which is quite evident based on the number of events that take place at this location. It is a truly unique area that showcases the beautiful Virginia countryside.
